Being a senior in high school can be both exciting and challenging because you are working hard to keep up your grades while finding time to complete the required senior hours and you have to spend money on so many different events: homecoming, prom, graduation, the list is long. You also have to say goodbye to the activities you did in high school, in my case, marching band, track and field, concert band, choir and robotics. This is the last year to do everything that happens in high school.
The exciting part of being a senior is doing the senior walkout and making the number 25 on the field with my classmates of 2025. That will be the last formation on the field for me because I’m in the marching band. I’m very excited for prom, I can’t wait to pick out my dress. I’m looking forward to graduation because I can’t wait to walk across that stage for something that I’ve been working so hard for. When I get that diploma in my hand, I will know that I’m on my last chapter of high school.
Some seniors struggle with balancing school work and are failing classes because they are just stuck on the fact that they are leaving high school. Just some seniors get caught up and when they realize they’re not walking across that stage to get their diploma because so much is going on.
Many seniors feel stressed because they are unsure about what they are going to do after high school, going to college or doing a trade for the profession they want to go into, picking the college they’re going to, and actually getting accepted to that college.
There is a lot of pressure to make the most of your senior year, because it’s your last year and you make so many memories you know you’ll want to look back and say: “I went out with a bang.”
The uncertainty of leaving high school and going out in the world to pursue what you want to do out of your day-to-day life can be your next step in your life. Talking to your favorite teacher or a person you feel comfortable talking to can help students feel less stressed out.
It’s important for seniors to remember to breathe in and out because being a senior is stressful. You have to make decisions about your life and what you decide may or may not make your future and you making your first big decision.
