Karly Marina Loaiza mostly known as Kali Uchis, is a Colombian-American singer and songwriter. She will be releasing her last album on May 9, 2025, before a break called Sincerely, which is her most personal album. So far, the two songs that have been released have her mother and sons voice at the beginning and end of the songs. She also has a traveling mailbox which we’ll go more in depth with, in the article.
One of the songs she’s pushed is called Sunshine & Rain, which includes her mother’s voice at the beginning of the song saying, “Good morning, sunshine.” Which is a heartfelt moment, since she’s recently shared that her mother has passed away. She’s also shared where she got the snippet from her mother on her Instagram post, sharing a chat between her and her mother.
The other song, called ILYSMIH, which stands for “I love you so much it hurts.” The lyrics are about her son she had in March 2024. Many fans thought it was about her partner, Don Toliver, until they heard the ending of her baby son, where he’s giggling and saying “Mama.” The song shows the emotions of her love, pain, joy, and the impact of motherhood it’s had on her.
She’s started to push out a traveling mailbox for this album, where you’re able to write and send her any letters you’d like. There’s also a box where you’ll have to guess a code that will give you a hard drive with a special snippet from the album to be unlocked. The mailbox is currently in The Echo, Los Angeles, California, but she plans on sending it to Miami, Florida, New York, New York; outside of the Coachella festival in Coachella, California; and more. She shares the coordinates on her Instagram story for fans in the area to find.
One of the fans who has unlocked the box shared one of the unreleased songs that she won with everyone else. Which is called Heaven is a Home, Kali Uchis shared in a recent interview that its about her mother, who was in and out of the hospital due to cancer. She shares in an interview that, “The first song on the album, was the first song that I wrote when I first started working on the project, and it was before I even knew I was pregnant, it was before that my mom got her diagnosis or anything, and later when I listen back to the lyrics, it like tied in full circle with what I was going through later that I didn’t even realize that I was gonna go through and it was like the music, it was what I needed. Cause on the lyrics I talk about, stay away from my baby, stay away from my home. I didn’t even know I was gonna have a baby, and then I talk about looking to the clouds and see a smiling face, and it gives me hope, and for me now, that’s her.”
So far, I’ve listened to some of the album, and it is honestly an amazing album she’s made so far, especially since it’s a personal album with a ton of her feelings going into the album. I’ve listened to Sunshine & Rain, ILYSMIH, and the full song of Heaven is a Home, which are amazing songs. It shows a lot of emotions within the background track and lyrics. She’s also gone for an oldies vibe for the music, especially with Heaven is a Home and some other songs like All I Can Say.
