Here at Belleville High School, we have an abundance of support and courses for after-high-school opportunities like our new tech program, cosmetology, our many business programs, and our early college program. We have exemplary staff members leading each of these courses and programs, one of whom has won an award for their outstanding work and incredible determination to help their students. Her name is Ms. Sprague, and she has won the Kiwanis Teacher of the Year award.
Ms. Sprague has accomplished a lot over the past year that advocates for her nomination for the award. Some of those accomplishments include partnering with the Special Olympics to hold the Polar Plunge event to raise money that goes back to the Special Olympics and to our Unified program. With her dedication, she was able to get our school to raise over $15,000. She worked extremely hard to make this event happen and she worked tirelessly to get us the opportunity to play one of our basketball games at Little Caesars Arena. Again, with the help of Special Olympics, Ms. Sprague provided her students with an unforgettable experience.
Besides helping make this school year memorable for all of her students, Ms. Sprague held a meeting with those at Washtenaw Community College to obtain a new partnership with our school. We previously were partnered with Wayne Community College but amidst a plethora of complaints, Ms. Sprague made the decision to move schools for the benefit of all students. She is a very caring and observant teacher so she saw that her students needed a change, and she made it happen.
Ms. Sprague has had the biggest impact on me during high school out of every teacher I have had throughout high school. Before I joined the Unified team, I was unmotivated and unwilling to put in effort. After my first year with the team, I began to want to be a better student so my friends on the team had someone they could talk to that set a good example. With my last year coming to a close, I feel like I can safely say that I am that person now. I try everyday to be who I want my friends in Unified to be in the future. I am forever grateful and appreciative for Ms. Sprague and the entirety of the Unified department for building me into the person I have become and for making my high school experience extremely fun and memorable. Thank you.
