Belleville High School hosted Senior Scholarship Recognition Night on May 14th in the commons for the Class of 2025. This night shows just how important it is to go out and earn scholarships.
Senior Scholarship Recognition Night is a night meant to recognize the Class of 2025 for all of their scholarships they obtained. These scholarships can be athletic, merit, or organization-based scholarships and more. Scholarships can range from a few hundred dollars to fifty thousand dollars a year. Whether it’s a few hundred or fifty thousand dollars, every penny counts towards the students’ next education. Even a few hundred can change their lives and help with the struggles of paying for post-high school education.
Counselor Mrs. Currie, who is helping put on the event, had a lot to say about Senior Scholarship Recognition Night, “Senior Scholarship Recognition Night represents the culmination of years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work—an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of students as they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives. The night is not just about the scholarships themselves; it is a celebration of the students’ journey through their K-12 education. It highlights their dedication to learning and personal growth, as well as the support they have received from teachers, mentors, and family members along the way. From academic excellence to leadership, community service, and artistic achievements, the event shines a light on the diverse talents and contributions of the graduating class. Senior Scholarship Recognition Night serves as an inspiration for younger students, showing them the rewards of hard work and dedication. It reinforces the values of perseverance and commitment, encouraging them to strive for their own success and take advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.”
Even though Mrs. Currie doesn’t know the origins of the event, she believes that it is a very cherished night that brings the community together to recognize the efforts and accomplishments of the class of 2025.
When asking senior Maya Foxworth, who will be attending the University of Michigan Dearborn in the fall for mechanical engineering, what impact scholarships have on her after high school education she said, “Tuition is one of the big costs of college and I’m grateful that I don’t have to worry about that. The scholarships that I got paid for my tuition and now all I have to worry about is finding housing.” This shows the life-changing impact scholarships have on post-high school education for those who have financial difficulties or worries that college is unaffordable.
According to Master Mind Behavior, over 1.7 million scholarships are awarded in the United States. Scholarships have become a significant source of financial aid for students. The U.S Department of Education alone awards over $46 billion dollars in scholarship funds annually. There are many scholarship opportunities out there. Sites like Going Merry, ScholarshipOwl and even College Board can help you find hundreds of scholarship opportunities.
Scholarships help millions of students every year, but there are so many high school seniors who don’t go out for scholarships because they don’t see the importance, or because they take too much time or too many requirements. The rewards of going out for these scholarships will be more beneficial in the long run. Even a few hundred can change someone’s life and make college more affordable. So go out for any and every scholarship you can apply for!
