As a senior, I want to give advice to any incoming freshman. Going from one school to another is definitely not easy, especially since you’re leaving a place where a large part of your life experiences were. Even though freshman year might not be as hard as your other high school years, it is one of the most important.
Freshman year, the workload isn’t that bad, and the two electives you pick are usually more engaging than your regular classes. It’s good to make sure you’re participating in your classes and doing the assignments, though. In some of your classes, you could be graded on how much you participate, which is honestly one of the easiest things you can do to keep a good grade. Another thing that’ll help you stay on top of your work is asking questions. Yes, it’s such a basic thing, but it’s something you want to incorporate in class. A lot of times, the concepts you might not understand are usually what half of the class doesn’t understand either. So don’t be afraid to ask.
Now let’s get into the other things you should look forward to experiencing. Besides grades, it’s nice to be involved with something that catches your interest at school. As someone who’s on the more introverted side, this is something I’ve struggled with. You don’t have to be a talkative person, but trying to get through school will be hard if you don’t do anything else there. Ways you can be involved are to join/try out as many clubs, events, and sports.
If you play an instrument or are interested in playing one, you’re in the right place. There are a total of four different bands, which are taught by either of the band directors, Mr.Campbell or Mr. Taylor. If you’ve ever been to one of the football games, then you definitely heard the marching band playing their instruments and hyping up the crowd. Besides music, Belleville also has good sports programs, especially for football, basketball, and swimming. If you are not into music or sports, the school also provides many clubs like: Art club, Spanish club, French club, sign language club, theater, robotics, E-Sports, and many more! If you’re an incoming freshman, I hope your year goes well.
