Come join BHS as we introduce the all new Crochet Club!!!
From TikTok trends to handmade gifts, crochet is in! Belleville High School’s newest club, the BHS Crochet Club, is giving students a chance to stitch, unwind, and create amazing art together.
Meeting in the media center/library every Thursday after school, the club welcomes students of all skill levels to learn and enjoy the craft of crochet. It’s a place where creativity, patience, and style can join together in every loop and knot.
“Crochet is a good skill to have, it helps students unlock the more creative side whilst dealing with different fabrics, materials,” said Crochet Club instructor Mrs. Johnson.
The idea for the club came about earlier this year when a group of students noticed a growing interest in handmade art and fashion. “There have been quite a few TikTok trends where things are being made through crochet/ sewing,” says Cameron H. Crocheting has become relatively popular, not only for its beauty but also for its calming, mindful, and good qualities. Many students see it as a perfect way to take a break from screens and outside distractions to learn a timeless and beautiful skill.
“We overall thought that the Crochet Club would bring happiness to Belleville. There is social media everywhere; however, this is a good place for the student to learn and grow in their inner power,” Mrs. Johnson
Beyond making scarves, hats, and cute plushies, the Crochet Club hopes to make a positive impact at BHS by organizing small projects, like crafting and more, in hopes that the students can make some sort of future through different arts.
“We plan on making the Crochet club into a safe place for the students, ensuring that they can grow and learn. We are also looking at ways the students can get paid for creating and selling their products. It would be a good way for the students to garner jobs and interests.” Said Crochet Club instructor Mrs. Johnson.
Crochet is more than just a hobby; it’s a way to express yourself, build new friendships, and appreciate the art of slow creation. As one student put it, crochet is “a lost art brought back to life, one stitch at a time.”
