After the unfortunate departure of our former college advisor, Miss Aniya, students were left with no one to ask questions, seek guidance, or to turn to. Last spring, Michigan lost $15 million in funding that lead to many schools cutting their college advisors. According to The Michigan College Access Network (MCAN), they reported that in late April 2025 their programs such as AdviseMI (which places college-advisers in high schools) lost their federal AmeriCorps grants. Many students were worried that their questions about their future were in jeopardy. However, the decision was not made by the school, but rather due to budget cuts to federal AmeriCorps grant terminations, the funding source was pulled. This past month, BHS was graced with a new college advisor, Ms. Danner, who is ready to take action on any questions any students may have for her.
Ms. Danner graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, and most recently got her Master’s in Design Science at the University of Michigan. This is Ms. Danner’s first year as a college adviser. She states that her main goal as a college advisor is to help students feel more confident in their plan after they graduate high school, and is there to provide resources, talk about plans or ideas, and help make it feel like college is more attainable for everyone. She also states that she hopes students achieve their goals and see themselves as people who are capable of succeeding in whatever they put their minds to.
If you have any questions for Ms. Danner, her email is [email protected]. She also welcomes students to feel free to drop into the counseling office and set up a meeting with her in person.
