BHS has a new choir director and a new music appreciation class this year and the program is encouraging growth.
Mrs. Herrmann has been teaching for 20 years; she is also a soprano. Mrs. Herrmann also went to Belleville High School and was in the choir. She also went to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp when she was in 9th grade she performed with professional soloists and a full orchestra and had a solo.
Mrs. Herrmann plans to grow the current Belleville High School Choir into a whole Choir Program with students who love to sing and make music in many different performing ensembles! There were over 200 students in the Choir Program when she was at BHS. She excitedly exlaimed, “I plan to encourage, develop, and inspire our singers to achieve at high levels of musical excellence, capable of earning top ratings at music festivals and competitions, and skilled at performing music from a variety of genres and styles”. “I would like to re-institute the advanced select ensemble, the Ambassadors, and begin singing outside of school within the community and at music festivals and performances in other states and eventually abroad”.
Music appreciation class is really an intro to choir. The music appreciation class will be at some of the choir concerts sing along with the choir class. Music appreciation is the 4th hour and the choir class is 5th hour room 190 is the classroom. Many students can benefit from singing and learning more about music appreciation. Mrs. Herrmann stated, “If you love to sing: SING, and TRY CHOIR! If you find yourself singing along with the radio, TRY CHOIR!” “If music touches a special place in your soul when you hear it or sing along, you might just be waiting to discover the gift of song that is within you!
