Career Technical Education (CTE) is a program offered at high schools to help students explore and interpret career information. The purpose of CTE classes is to provide high school students with curriculum and training for high-demand careers and to help students obtain credentials, certificates, and even college credits. Taking CTE classes in high school often leaves students with the ability to obtain employment while still in school or shortly after graduation.
When asked how CTE aligns with the goals that BHS has for its students, the CTE coordinator Mrs. Romak says, “CTE aligns with BHS goals as there is a school-wide initiative to ensure that students are walking in their purpose. As more students become aware of their career pathway and the various careers within the pathways, they will recognize that our CTE programs are able to help them receive the career skills and training they need to continue on that path.”
After taking CTE classes, students are able to earn certificates or credentials that allow them to work in their chosen industry during high school or after graduation. Most programs also give students the opportunity to receive credits at local community colleges and some four-year universities.
