Beetlejuice was a huge hit in the 80s, especially on Halloween. The first Beetlejuice, a comedy/horror film, was released on March 30th, 1988. The main theme of the series is about death and the afterlife. The new Beetlejuice is about a couple named Barbara and Adam who appear to be dead from a tragic accident and are now stuck inside of a house.
The second Beetlejuice was released on September 6th, 2024. This Beetlejuice is about years later when tragedy hits the Deetz family and Lydia. Her stepmother, boyfriend, and daughter Astrid go back to the house for a funeral of the father. Jenna Ortega gets introduced in the Beetlejuice sequel as Astrid, who is Lydia’s daughter. When she rides into town on her bike she is introduced to Germany who is played by Arthur Conti. They begin a friendship and during their hangout out on Halloween they share a kiss where she finds out he’s a ghost.
The second Beetlejuice has more popularity within the viewer’s perspective. According to Rotten Tomatoes, “The Tim Burton sequel fell back 48% to $26 million in its third weekend, bringing its total to $226.8 million.” Currently, there is a rating of 6.9/10 in IMDb, 77% on rotten tomatoes and 83% of Google users liked this movie.
In my opinion, I prefer the second Beetlejuice because the second movie shows a different perspective and fresh new look on the generation and the sequel of Beetlejuice. The graphics and cinematography are much better as well given that technology has advanced so much of the past few decades. I would also recommend the first one to know the backstory of the Deetz family as well because if you like darker movies the first one would be the best for you.
