Dodge/Jeep/Ram Rollbacks Continue

Following the previous Stellantis article, more changes have been made to the company, with many of the companies further backing up on their EV claims.

Starting with the smaller news, Jeep would announce the powertrains included in the next-generation Wrangler. While previously electric/hybrid only, V8s and the new “Hurricane” gas engine options have now been added. Along with the wranglers, the newly announced EV labeled the “Recon” is also changing. With the new Stellantis CEO, Jeep is now looking into making a gas version of this concept as well. Finally, the newly designed all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S may be seeing the same fate, with gas powertrain options being added as well.

While Jeep is seeing more and more changes, Dodge is by far the most impacted. It was announced on March 24th, 2025, that the discontinued “Hemi” family of V8s will restart production in August of this year, at the Dundee engine plant. These engines come in many different varieties, starting with the 5.7L HEMI. This engine previously saw applications in the Charger, Jeep Cherokee, Durango, Dodge Ram,  Jeep Wagoneer, and Challenger. Next to this is the 6.4L HEMI, which saw similar applications, along with use in heavy-duty trucks. The last engine to return is the supercharged 6.2L HEMI. This is the most exciting because it hints at its previous application, especially in the Dodge Chargers.

The return of all of these engines has also led to leaked documents, reporting that the previously discontinued Ram TRX will also make a return. Like the V8s, this was a V8-powered sport pickup truck that was a very popular/liked option. This return would prove that Stellantis would have fully rolled back on previous EV plans.

As these plans continue to change, the likelihood of other vehicles returning is becoming more and more likely. These changes are mostly due to changing regulations (becoming less strict), and more importantly, the changing of an entire lineup of company CEOs at Stellantis and Dodge.
