Danielle “Danny” Taylor, the 16-year-old regional hurdle champion, has made waves throughout her track and field career at Belleville. From beating her own personal records to setting new school records to earning titles, her impact is felt throughout the school for both her incredible athleticism and resoundingly positive demeanor. At this year’s MHSAA regionals, she claimed 1st place in Michigan’s 5th region’s hurdle event, securing her #2 place in Belleville’s school records and the #20 place in the state for hurdles.
Taylor’s dedication to track and field is unmistakable, adhering to strict training and conditioning year-round. Her main event is hurdles, often regarded as the most physically demanding event in track, requiring endurance, stamina, and mobility. She trains indoor during the cold season, refining her hurdle techniques and spending lots of time in the weight room to avoid muscle atrophy and injury. She remarks that her favourite part of conditioning is weight training her legs, and, of course, practicing hurdles.
Achievements under Taylor’s belt include #20 position in the state and #1 in the region for hurdles, #50 position in the state for long jump, the school record for the 4×1 and 4×2 relays, the second-place school record for 100m hurdles, and the third-place school record for long jump. Her record this season has consistently been in the top 3 for almost all of her events.
Danielle Taylor’s dedication to her sport is unmatched, but her contributions to the school don’t stop there. Her effervescent personality reaches every corner of the school, spreading positivity and cheer as she walks the halls. She always leaves whoever she’s talking to with a smile on their face and a happy moment to brighten their day. Taylor is not only essential to our track & field team, but to the entire school’s community, always finding a way to cheer up even someone in the darkest of moods. Her impact on Belleville High School will linger for years to come, in the best way.D
