McBride Middle School teacher, Paige Fordice, was awarded the Kiwanis Teacher of the Year on May 11th and was nominated by fellow teacher Mrs. Radcliff. Her name will be engraved on the Kiwanis plaque that resides in the school district’s administration building.
Mrs. Fordice shared how she felt receiving this award, “It feels really amazing, and also surprising! There are so many amazing teachers at McBride that don’t get the recognition they deserve. I know that I am a good teacher, but I certainly don’t consider myself to be a master at teaching or have everything figured out yet. I look forward to continuing living up to my award!”
The Kiwanis Organization is a global organization dedicated to improving the world “one child at a time.” They envision a world where children can wake up in communities that believe in them, and provide the support they need to thrive. In doing so, they give out this award to recognize teachers who are doing a phenomenal job in providing what students need.
Mrs. Fordice is wrapping up on her 9th year of teaching this year. After teaching for four years at a Canton charter school, she moved to McBride Middle school where she’s been teaching ever since. Alongside teaching, she has also been dedicating her time to the girls Varsity Cross Country team at Belleville High School for the past four years.
“My favorite part about teaching (and coaching) is being with kids. My students ALL know that I am there because I much prefer them over adults. I know that my students will make mistakes everyday. Some are behavioral, some academic, and a lot unintentional. I am happy that I am there to help them navigate what can be a very rough point in their lives. I love seeing how they evolve as high schoolers and beyond too,” says Mrs. Fordice.
To her students, Mrs. Fordice has one thing to say: “To my past, present, and future students: you will always be my kid and I will always have a special place in my heart for you. I still love hearing from you, running into you out and about, and most of all bragging about the amazing thing you’ve done. Especially to my current seniors at BHS, I am so so proud of them. They are continuing athletics, going into helping professions, and so much more. You are welcome back in my class anytime and I can’t wait to see the great things you continue to do!”
