How To Effectively Plan Your Galentine’s

Galentine’s day, an unofficial but heavily celebrated holiday, is usually celebrated on the day before Valentine’s or any day in the month of February and is a unique way to celebrate platonic relationships between women and girls and even empowerment for women. There are many ideas for parties and events and sometimes it can get pretty overwhelming to plan out what the celebration will hold and how to plan for it.

Where Should I Shop?

The first step to planning out your party may be the search for decorations. However, hopping from store to store with little to no feasible ideas for what your party should look like starts to become time consuming pretty quickly. Some of the best shops for Galentines day planning are Homegoods, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Marshall’s, and Dollar General. HomeGoods provides a plethora of many different items for decoration, food, and even games. Its diverse stock will have you set for decor and activities faster than it may take in any other store. From gorgeous glassware sets to fun on-theme games like checkers and bingo. Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Marshall’s have very similar products that are perfect for crafts and decorations as well.  Dollar general is especially good for cheap decor, or glass sets for beverages.

Activity Ideas

Once you have gotten your theme down, figuring out what to do with your girlfriends may be a bit tough. However, you can do just about anything with your girlfriends. But if you wish to stay on theme, there are plenty of options that can go into your day.

    • Valentines Day themed nails: Painting each other’s nails is a fun way to bond during your get-together with your friends. On theme colors like reds, pinks, and whites and cute heart-shaped designs are the way to go, and plenty of inspiration can be found on pinterest
    • Candle painting: A relaxing, easy, and artsy activity could be group candle painting. Any candle, preferably white can be used for this whether they are tall or short candles. Acrylic paint is the best way to go.
    • Glass painting: Another activity using paint is glass painting. Many typically go for painting wine glasses, but just about any glass can be used for this idea.
  • Mocktail making: Mocktails are easy and can be experimented with just about any juice and soda. Mocktail recipes can be found just about anywhere from Instagram Reels to Pinterest. To follow the pink and red theme of Galentines, pink Simply Lemonade drinks are recommended like Simply Lemonade With Strawberry and Simply Lemonade With Raspberry. Sodas should either be clear-colored like sprite or a pink or red color.
  • Mini cake baking: Mini cake baking with a variety of frosting, sprinkles, and toppings is the perfect way to spend time with your loved ones on this holiday. A good substitute for mini cakes would be cupcakes, using the same batter as you would for mini cakes.

What Galentine’s Means to Others

Galentine’s day is more than just the “friend’s version” of Valentine’s Day. It is a day for women, no matter their relationship, to spend a day focused on them and their appreciation for each other. Whether it is a mother, sister, coworker, best-friend, niece, classmate, or daughter. I asked my best friends what they felt the purpose of Galentine’s day is, Zoe Grullon responded, “ The purpose of Galentine’s is to show that Valentine’s day is about love not just romance, It’s a chance to show others you care and enjoy spending time.”

Hannah Fortune responded, “I’m very grateful to have Galentine’s because I get to spend time with a group of girls that I care about very deeply, and I love the sense of community it brings when everyone’s together.” Galentine’s day, although unofficial, is a beautiful holiday and is one of the best ways to spend time with another girl in your life.
