People have recently lost their minds for the new pokemon cards and with these people going wild for the cards, we have gotten a few problems like scalpers. You might be asking what it even means to be a scalper. This term is used to describe people who buy products as soon as they are released to the public and then sell them for a profit. Then there are the bulk buyers. It’s a person who buys a huge amount of a product then either holds the items for a long period of time or opens the products in the instance they get their hands on them. Now that we have the terms out of the way, let’s get to the problem.
Since they are buying in bulk, the demand is going up faster and faster. To the point when they released they already were 80-100 dollars but it only rose because these bulk buyers and Scalpers are buying everything and becoming very aggressive on restock day, aggressive to the point where they are jumping over people, pushing, shoving, squishing, stealing, and attacking.
Aside from the attacks the other reason why this is a problem is because the little boys and girls who watch Pokemon aren’t able to get their hands on the products without having to have a parent to buy them online at three times the price for instance. Online a man is selling 23 packs of “Pokemon TCG Scarlet & Violet 3.5 and pokemon 151 ultra premium collection for $370 a piece when if you check Walmart or Target it ranges from $150 to $180 and that is only because the bulk buyers are raising the demand. Also if you try buying the said items they are all pre-ordered to the limit. This means you can’t even pre-order a single one. Think about that for a second these cards have been open to the public since December 28th, 2025 and now it’s March 5th 2025 and they have a stock day every Thursday and they stock fifteen thousand EVERY SINGLE THURSDAY. They buy every single one.
So if you are a teen or younger good luck getting these in person cause it’s you versus grown men. Oh forgot to mention these scalpers are making macros to automatically buy the items for them online so even if you wanted to pre-order you can’t because these scalpers have artificial intelligence buying these items in under a second flat. Trying to counter the scalpers and aggression stores have started making QR codes for people but since they do this people aren’t able to go into a certain part of the store since it is especially open for people who bought the pokemon cards and then of course this leads to a problem as well. People have started sneaking into the spots and taking large amounts of the packs for free because they have a fake printed QR code and since that’s happening people who have already bought the packs are having to race over just to be safe. I still want to point this out this is still for the little cards that have cool art designs, it’s not for a new computer part nor is it something game changing like a new type of basketball or baseball gear, nope they are cards meant for children and fans of Pokemon.
