Whether it be going to see a movie at a theater or watching from home on TV, movies are something many people enjoy.
After talking to students, as well as getting into some other discussions about movies, many people said their favorite movie they’ve watched this year was sinners. Many said that it was “intense”, and also had a great soundtrack. According to Rolling Stones “Top 20” list some of the best films from this year include Frankenstein and Weapons. Additionally from TIME’s “10 Best Movies” at number 7 on the list it mentioned the movie Sinners. In another article reviewing the movie TIME called the film by Ryan Coogler “fun and rowdy”.
While there have been some memorable films this past year, movies have been the definition of a hit or miss. Many critics are calling 2025 a disappointing year due to many movies having underwhelming or low reception from audiences.
Despite some disappointments, the new year is jam-packed with new films movie lovers can look forward to. There are many new works and continuations of beloved series to get excited about.
One movie in particular that is anticipated by many is Micheal, which is a biopic about pop king Micheal Jackson that is expected to be released in April 2026. The trailer alone received 116.2 million views worldwide in the first 24 hours of being on the internet.
Another film that is anticipated by movie watchers and book lovers is “Wuthering Heights”. The movie is based on the classic book written by Emily Brontë. The film will feature music from UK pop artist Charli XCX. Another factor about the movie that caught people’s attention was the cast, which will feature Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie.
In addition to new original films, there are also many new movies coming out that are a part of popular movie franchises. Franchises like The Hunger Games, Toy Story, Spider Man, Dune, and even a sequel to the 2006 movie The Devil Wears Prada.
