The Detroit Tigers had a great run during the 2023-2024 season. In the regular season, their record was 86-76, and they made a Wild Card in the American League. This was a huge surprise because the Tigers had a rock-solid start to the season. Before the All-Star break, they were thinking about going into rebuild mode, but things changed. The Tigers went on many different winning streaks and shocked the fans and the world.
Gavin Long, a BHS baseball and football player, said this about the Tigers, “They shocked me and everyone who actually watches baseball. It was amazing!”
They had some players that really stood out and have the potential to win some awards. First, we have Tarik Skubal. He was a dominant LHP for the Tigers all year long. He had 228 strikeouts this year with a 2.39 and only a WHIP of .92. Those three stats are good enough for him to earn a triple crown, which is a pitcher with the best of those three stats. It is a rare accomplishment, but she earned those honors this year and is in the running for the CY Young Award (best pitcher in the MLB) this year.
We had one more All-Star/breakout player this year, Riley Greene. He had a very good second season and impressed a lot of people, so that earned him an All-Star reserve spot this year. He was hitting .262 with 24 HRs and 74 RBIs and with an OBS of .827. He has a bright future with this team, and the team is going to keep counting on him for the next couple of years so the Tigers can become dominant.
The Tigers are on the rise, and they are trying to become a dominant force. They are looking forward to the young team coming into their own these next couple of years.
