Walking into Belleville High School as a freshman, I knew one thing for sure: someday I wanted to attend New York University (NYU). I just didn’t know how I would get there.
When I first came to Belleville High School, NYU had always been my dream college, but I never really knew exactly what I wanted to major in. That was until I started to learn more about business management.
I quickly realized business management was right for me when I got the chance to go to one of Belleville High School’s career pathways that help students explore careers by getting real business owners to talk about their experiences of owning their own business and some things they had to do to get there. These opportunities help students like me prepare for college by setting me up for success on what I should know before it actually happens.
In high school, students can start preparing by taking classes that could help you with the major you want to pursue once you get to college. I believe attending NYU will help me achieve my goals by getting real-world experiences that others only dream about.
On NYU‘s business management website it states, “you’ll live and learn within walking distance of Wall Street, global advertising, and marketing agencies, and hundreds of world renowned businesses, and brands in industries, like finances, environment, technology, fashion, and sports.” My advice to other students trying to find their passion is look for what you’re most interested in.
Based on this, you could look up colleges that have the best majors for that subject. But what’s nice is that you could also achieve those things in Belleville high school as well to better prepare yourself for those upcoming majors.
BHS has also been focusing on the career pathways. Ms. Romak, the CTE coordinator, helps bring in industry professionals for each different career pathway. Students are invited to sit and watch the pathways, make connections, and ask questions to learn more.
To help you better succeed on this amazing journey in Belleville High School, Ms. Buhro, the 9th grade counselor, said, “I strongly recommend taking a business class in high school to get experience.” Taking different classes in high school can open doors to new interests and help students discover their passions and strengths.
